The Space Launch System (SLS) will be the largest most powerful rocket the U.S. has ever built, larger even than the Saturn 5. This video shows a test firing if a five percent scale model of the rocket. This test took place on August 28th and was the 34th in the series. These tests are designed to help NASA engineers understand how loud the SLS vehicle will be during liftoff. Sound from the rocket can seriously damage the vehicle as it reverberates from the launch pad. This vibration needs the me managed and understood to prevent a launch failure. The information from these tests will help engineers design the water sound suppression system for the SLS.
