The sun currently has eight sunspots visible, up from zero only a few weeks ago. While we wait for the sun’s magnetic field to flip and the solar max to arrive we can anticipate some additional activity like we are seeing now. The source of this flare is new sunspot AR1865 which erupted 01:48 UT on October 9th. The Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the M2.8-class eruption: Earth is not in the line of fire but as the sunspot rotates towards Earth we could see some events which will impact us.
