As you can see in this image there are a number of sun spots that are in close proximity creating what looks like a river of sunspots crossing almost one third of the sun. This image was taken by the Solar Dynamics Observatory. While the space weather activity has been relatively low in the last few weeks this could change of this conglomeration of sun spots erupts into flares or CMEs. This chain of is composed of six individual sun spots. Having this many spots this close together is unusual and makes for an interesting sight.
We are in a solar max period and are due for some significant solar events. This solar max has been somewhat quiet, hopefully this is not the beginning of the storm.
